In 1995, the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) made it mandatory for all facilities and service providers that serve and are open to the public must take steps to provide access for disabled people, however large or small the establishment. This results in businesses having a duty of care to provide aids and services as such enabling disabled people to be appropriately cared for in any situation. As a DDA complaint disabled fire alarm installer, we are also aware that for commercial projects, current building regulations insist that all new commercial buildings with more than one storey and lift access must provide refuge areas. Therefore, it is crucial that all areas of any project, no matter the size are mapped out thoroughly and carefully considered at each stage of the project.
Refuge alarms or emergency voice communication systems (EVCS) are designed to work as a dual call messaging device. They provide that all-important audio communication between the person(s) involved in a specific evacuation in a refuge area and the fire service carrying out the emergency rescue. With our expertise and experience in this service for over 25 years, we can provide and install disabled refuge systems into commercial buildings and businesses providing reassurance and assistance for businesses if an emergency arises.
An example of our respected work in this division took place at Cowes Enterprise College in the Isle of Wight. After a competitive tendering process, we were awarded to design, supply, install and commission the fire and security systems across the complete school site; a large part of this project consisted of refuge telephone and disabled toilet alarms. This case study further supports our proven track record of working in a multitude of organisations and variety of businesses in the education sector demonstrating our experience and quality over the years.
